The Signpost refurbished

Pete Jenkins

I took the opportunity during a lull in relief at the end of 1982 to smarten up the signpost which in many places had begun to show raw wood where blowing snow had worn way the paint.

I brought it down to the chippy shop, took it to pieces and repainted it. I also converted the distances from miles to kilometres (it was me!) and replaced the circle at the top. I think I made minor alterations to the places pointed at, and may well have adjusted the local distances to match those current at the time.

The original circle I brought home and mounted a clock mechanism on it. It functioned for many years in the kitchen in my house in Sheffield and is now here with me in Denmark.
