A visit to the old IGY base

It has taken me a while to find these but in view of correspondence on the Z
FIDS site regarding old bases I thought you may be interested.
Why is it that tracking down the details always ends up in a couple of hours
wallowing in nostalgia while going through the old diary!
The photographs were taken on 29th May 1977 when Steve Emery and myself
visited the IGY Base.
It only took a quarter of an hour to dig out the one shaft that was still
We descended on electron (caving) ladders and got down to the IGY hut but
couldnt get to the higher 1964? hut due to part of the 1961 hut having
collapsed. We got into the IGY lounge and the geni shed which I think had
subsequently been used as a store.
I have a number of other photographs of the trip that I will try to locate and
